Woodpeckers
Years 5 and 6
We are Woodpeckers class, a mixed age Year 5 & 6 class. Our teaching team is Miss Goodall, Mrs Mayo and Miss Griscti. Every day, we challenge ourselves with a range of lessons in which we keep our Heart Values at the forefront of all we do. In the afternoons, we follow an adventure-based learning approach where we delve deeply into a range of foundation subjects, with our overarching question of the term driving our questioning and investigations. We are extremely lucky to be a small school in the heart of the New Forest and enjoy taking our learning outside whenever possible. We have wonderful outside spaces at Burley Primary School, such as our student garden and woodland area.
In Woodpeckers, we strongly believe that retrieval is a vital part of our day. We know that bringing prior learning back into our working memory from our long-term memory helps us to build on our existing knowledge and learn more.
Our Week
Each day, we come into school in our outdoor shoes and then change into our indoor shoes for our inside learning, keeping our outdoor shoes neatly on our shoe racks, ready to change into for outdoor learning and break times. PE days are Wednesdays and Thursdays. Children are expected to come in full PE kit suitable for the weather. Spelling home learning is set weekly on a Friday where learners are challenged to learn the words for the week, ready to be used correctly in our writing. Year 6 learners will receive SATs revision pages to complete on Tuesdays, ready to mark during our Year 6 Lunch Club on every Monday. Learners should be reading and practising their timetables on TTRS, following our Heart Value of Ambition - “Always learning”.
